Liebie's Random Ramblings

Guard with jealous attention the public liberty. Suspect everyone who approaches that jewel. Unfortunately, nothing will preserve it but downright force. Whenever you give up that force, you are ruined. — Patrick Henry

A New Low

Most of us who have children know what a chore it can be to get the kids to read.  It’s partly that some of the stuff they have to read for school is crap, but it’s also that there are other things that they would rather do.  Video game anyone??  Trying to convince them that reading can be “fun” just doesn’t cut it.

So here is a kid that loves to read.  He’s won reading contests at his local library for the last 5 years.  Not bad for a 9 year old.  So does it make sense that the library would try to discourage this?  They don’t feel that it’s fair that the same kid has won.  They are now thinking about changing the contest to a random winner.  Good job guys!  Discourage hard work and see what kind of people you get.  Oh wait, that’s already been done.
