Need Employees? Hire Criminals – It’s The Law
They are at it again. More laws, regulations and threats against business owners.
The EEOC has issued new guidelines trying to force businesses to hire ex-cons. Not hiring ex-cons can be seen as racist. More minorities are convicted of crimes than whites. Therefore, refusing to hire people with criminal records is seen as discriminatory.
There are just some jobs you don’t want certain people doing. Would you want a guy with several rape charges working in a hospital? Career thief as a security guard? A repeat violent offender working anywhere near other employees in your facility? How about someone with 3 DUI as a delivery guy? I don’t think so. The ability to hire who you think is qualified to do a job should be left up to the business owners.
I think most employers will use some common sense. Everyone makes mistakes. Sometimes these mistakes result in a criminal record. It’s the people who don’t learn from those mistakes and keep ending up back behind bars that would be a concern. If they can’t stay out of trouble how reliable will they be? And they have a responsibility to keep the workforce safe. Hiring a convicted rapist to work in a factory with women probably isn’t a good idea.
There are some state and local laws that require background checks. This supersedes those so employers are in a damned if they do and damned if they don’t situation. I’m thinking that this is just another way to kill America. Regulated to death.
